  Name: Canadian Studies Grant Programs: Graduate Student Fellowship Program  
     
  Purpose: Annual award to offer graduate students an opportunity to conduct part of their doctoral research in Canada, with a view to contributing to a better knowledge and understanding of Canada and its relationship with the U.S. and/or other countries.  
     
  Field: Primarily, but not limited to, the social sciences and humanities. Priority topics include bilateral trade and economics, Canada-U.S. border issues, cultural policy and values, environmental and natural resources, energy issues, and security cooperation.  
       
  Eligibility: Citizens and permanent residents of the U.S. Full-time doctoral students at accredited U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities whose dissertations are related in substantial part to the study of Canada. Candidates should have completed all doctoral requirements except the dissertation, at the time of fellowship application.  
       
  Amount: A maximum of US$850 per month may be awarded for a period of up to nine months.
