Admission Requirements

Qualified graduates of colleges and universities of recognized standing are eligible to seek admission to the Graduate College. To be reviewed for admission consideration, applicants must submit a completed application to the Graduate College.

To have a complete application, we need these items sent to the Graduate College:

  • an application for admission consideration.
  • one original of transcripts/marksheets from all colleges and universities attended (all
    transcripts/marksheets must be official with the college's or registrar's original
    seal and should show any degrees completed).
  • for domestic applicants: a $40 non-refundable application fee for the first on-line application ($50 for a paper application), and $25 for each additional application, or if you are applying as a special (non-degree) student a $15 application fee.

    For international applicants: a $75 non-refundable application fee.

Departmental Requirements
The General Regulations of the Graduate College are minimum requirements that must be met by all graduate students at OSU. Please remember that you may need to provide additional information to the program or department to which you are applying such as a vita or recommendation letters. This information can be sent directly to the Graduate Coordinator of that department. Please contact the program directly if you have any questions about additional materials or test scores (such as the GRE or GMAT).

The GRE institution code for OSU is 6546. We provide a list of the preferred GRE department codes.

Only after receiving this information is your application complete and an admissions decision can be made.

Application Deadline
To assure adequate time, application forms, application fee, and transcripts should be received by the Graduate College at least 30 days prior to the departmental deadline or 30 days prior to expected enrollment (whichever comes first).

Language Requirement
An applicant who has or will have completed a baccalaureate or graduate degree from a college or university where English is the primary teaching language, and which is located in a country where English is a primary language, is not required to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score.

Applicants for whom English is a second language are required to demonstrate an acceptable level of spoken English usually by submitting a TOEFL or IELTS score. A TOEFL score of 79 (internet based test), 213 (computer based test) or 550 (paper based test) or above is required regardless of the number of semesters or terms completed in other institutions of higher education, including OSU, or prior enrollment in English language programs. Alternatively, an official IELTS, academic stream, examination with a minimum overall band score of 6.5 will satisfy the English proficiency requirements for admission to a graduate program. Either examination must have been taken within the last two years. Some departments require a score above the minimum 79/213/550 on the TOEFL or 6.5 on the IELTS. The TOEFL institution code for OSU is 6546.

Transcripts
The student should request each institution previously attended to send one official transcript to the Graduate College. To be official, the transcript must show the complete scholastic record, bear the official seal of the institution, and be signed by the issuing officer.To assure adequate time, application forms, application fee, and transcripts should be received by the Graduate College at least 30 days prior to the departmental deadline or 30 days prior to expected enrollment or(whichever comes first).

Transcripts and other documents submitted become the property of Oklahoma State University and will not be returned.

Note to current or former students of OSU-Stillwater or OSU-Tulsa: You do not need to submit official OSU transcripts; we already have the necessary information.

Readmission
A prospective student must enroll for courses at OSU within a year after his or her admission date to retain active status. A graduate or prospective student who does not enroll within one year must reapply for admission. A student who interrupts enrollment for one year must reapply for admission or obtain approval from the department to continue admission, and will then be subject to the regulations in effect at the time of readmission.
